Occupational therapists (OT) serve individuals whose everyday functioning is complicated by developmental disability, physical illness, injury, emotional problems, or aging changes. Occupational therapists use activities to: 1) improve the physical, sensory, cognitive, social and emotional skills needed for daily activities; 2) offer alternative approaches and adaptive devices when such capacities are impaired or lost; 3) ultimately promote a healthy balance and maximum independence in clients self-care, work and leisure performance; and 4) contribute to their overall wellness and quality of life. This program prepares occupational therapy assistants who collaborate with occupational therapists. OT assistants are employed in community settings providing mental health, residential care and home health and work-related services as well as in nursing homes, hospitals and schools.

Shared programs give students access to career majors that might not otherwise be available at their local college. Where these career fields are in high demand, two or more colleges may agree to share program components at the individual colleges. Because the colleges are collaborating, students may need to attend certain classes at another college to fulfill the program requirements.
