Machine Tool Operation Programs
Machine tool operators shape metal to precise dimensions with machine tools. Skilled operators perform complex and varied machining operations on lathes, milling machines, drill presses, surface grinders, and other machine tools. This requires the planning and setting up of the correct sequences of machine operations from blueprints, layouts, and other instructions. The machine operator must precisely measure tolerance limits with micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments to assure that work meets specifications. Students learn these basic skills plus receive an introduction to computer numerical control (CNC). Skilled machine tool operators work in production departments of various industrial plants, in job shops, tool rooms, and in maintenance of production equipment.
